Your Escape from the Rat Trap

I started reading Leo’s blog some time ago and I thought it was incredible.  While the jury is still out, I believe that Leo’s ideas are going to be life changing for me.  Leo’s has as written a book: Power of Less, The: The Fine Art of Limiting Yourself to the Essential…in Business and in Life by Leo Babauta.

If you don’t get this book you will regret it.   The $12 price tag is three cups of coffee.  What do you possibly have to lose?

Leo’s mantra is “Do Less. Get More Done”.  He places great emphasis on focusing on just one thing at a time.  Leo has one goal at at a time and he accomplishes that before he moves onto the next goal.  He suggests that you only do a few tasks each day, and by making sure they are the critical tasks that have high impact you will achieve a lot each and every day. He argues very persuasively for simplicity in everything.  Before I discovered Leo, I had already bought into the simplicity philosophy of Mark Joyner and Simpleology.

Leo takes it to a much broader scale and applies it to everything you do in life and gives you very practical suggestions on how to live a much simpler life.

I haven’t been able to even get close to working and living the Power of Less the way Leo teaches and practices it.  The reason why is because it is so extreme and such a radically different approach than I have taken my whole life.  But that’s ok.  The Power of Less teaches you to start small and make gradual changes.  I’m very impatient and when I find something so powerful I want to do it all at once, which of course is exactly the opposite of the Power of Less approach.  I’m struggling because I am trying to do too much in order to do less!

Despite all that, I have already achieved some great results with my baby steps into the Power of Less.  I am very excited about the possibilities that lie ahead because I have only just begun to live the Power of Less way.  Many people who read Leo’s book will be skeptical.  In our chaotic and complex world it just seems impossible to take Leo’s approach.  To the skeptical I suggest you read my previous post Getting Your Important Things Done and ponder that list of accomplishments by Leo, accomplishments achieved in a short period of time while raising six kids.  Most of us fail to make significant progress because our attention is diluted.  I have committed myself to give Leo’s approach a fair shot.  I suggest you do the same.

Many of Leo’s ideas will be featured in this blog along with the great ideas of many other incredible people I have discovered in my search for a better way.  The power of the Internet has brought the entire world and some fantastic individuals into my living room.  I am going to start be sharing those ideas with you and I invite you to join me and contribute your thoughts as well.

I promise you that if you apply some of these ideas to your own life, you will be amazed by the results.  You can escape the rat race and I will help you do that.  However the key to achieving what you want is action. I have spent a great deal of time searching, reading, and absorbing all the wonderful ideas of incredibly brilliant people.  I finally realized that all I was doing was absorbing ideas.  I was failing to devote time to acting on them.  I am now focusing on implementing what I have learned into my own life.  This blog will provide you a shortcut to success by sharing with you the best of the best.  I wish you the best of luck and look forward to following you as you achieve your fantastic new life.
